About Us

A video store that became a bookstore

North Myrtle Beach bookshop with rare collectibles and coastal charm

In the owner's words

What started as a video store over 20 years ago has slowly become a bookstore. When movie rentals started dying out, I had to figure out what to do next. Having been a book lover since I was old enough to read, it was a logical step and soon became an obsession.

I now spend a lot of my free time hunting for books. Next to meeting readers in my store, my favorite thing to do is try to find the perfect books to line my shelves. I now stock over 10,000 books of all genres; fiction and nonfiction.

I believe a bookstore should be fun and interesting with something for everyone. I've been honored to help families with children become book lovers, then watch them grow up and take their children to the store. It's been a very fulfilling career and I plan on doing it as long as I am able.

Friends of the Library

Where the books come from

He sources his inventory by accepting donations, rummaging through yard sales and sifting through the dollar rack in libraries throughout Horry County.

He partners with the Friends of the Library volunteer groups for North Myrtle Beach, Conway, Carolina Forest, Little River and buys the $1 books, sells them at the price they are worth and provides the Friends volunteers with 40%.

the plaque on the shop counter

“I just sold a book from 1696. It's all in Dutch, about a province of the Netherlands — with fold-out maps and everything — it was really cool... A guy came in from New York City over the holidays, knows Dutch, collects books and I gave him a deal of $2000.”Frank Kaufman, MyHorryNews

Support the shop from anywhere

We partner with Bookshop.com, a website that donates a commission to a local book store of your choosing whenever you buy a book. When you click the button below, you will be taken to the main home page. Next, click "Choose a Bookstore" in the top right and in the search bar type "Beach Bookshop" and select the store located in North Myrtle Beach, SC. After that, a small percentage of the money you spend on any books you buy from Bookshop.org will go to our store! This is a great way to support us without visiting in person.

“Good job on sign Crystal! Walking into a bookstore always makes you smile but a good chuckle as you walk up is a bonus.” — Facebook, May 6, 2026
